The cause is usually determined as having a frightful childhood experience around a clown. Also movies and television programs depicting mean or evil clowns can provoke a fear into some individuals. TreatmentThe most common approach is desensitization. Therapist will work with the individual to slowly introduce him or her to clowns. the first step might be just to talk about it, the second step might be to see pictures of clowns, the third step might be watching a program about clouds. Finally, the goal is to get the person to see a clown in person and go up and engage with the clown, talk to him, touch him and so on.
